How to brush your teeth properly?

Dentists and health experts emphasise on regular brushing for enjoying good dental health. Brushing helps prevent bacteria from clinging onto teeth and thereby prevents cavities, tooth decay, and gum disease.
To keep your teeth healthy, you must brush at least twice daily. It is equally important to brush your teeth properly. You must take a pea-sized dab of toothpaste on the head of the toothbrush and then place the toothbrush against your teeth at a 45 degree angle to the gum line. Move the brush in circular motion across your teeth. Clean one tooth at a time.

When brushing, move your toothbrush gently. The bristles of the toothbrush must not lie flat against the teeth. Make sure that the bristles reach into the spaces between the teeth as food particles get stuck there causing plaque to build up.

Do clean the side of your teeth that faces the tongue. You can use the same circular motion to clean the backside of your teeth. While brushing, you must clean your tongue too. You can use your toothbrush to give your tongue a few gentle strokes. It would help remove bacteria and would freshen up your breath.

Brush your teeth for 2-3 minutes and then rinse with water. Use mouthwash to prevent bad breath and gum problems.

Change your brush once in two-three months and use a good quality, soft brush.

Eat Right to Enjoy Good Dental Health

For good dental health, you must eat right. You must avoid eating foods that contain too much of sugar and starch as these can produce acid in your mouth. These acids can cause cavities and can lead to gum disease and other dental problems.

To avoid tooth decay and gum diseases, you must avoid snacking on candies, chocolates, cookies, cakes, pies, and gums. Hard candies are even more harmful for your teeth as they stick onto the teeth and stay in your mouth for longer. You can eat sugary treats but try to have them in moderation. Further, you must brush your teeth after having candies and chocolates or cakes and pies.

Starchy foods like potato chips, crackers, and breadsticks are also harmful for teeth as they stick to the teeth. For the same reason you must avoid eating dried fruits and raisins.

For good dental health, eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. They are rich in Vitamins and minerals and help in strengthening your teeth. Consume dairy products like milk, cheese, and yoghurt, and intake eggs, soya, and poultry to provide your teeth with calcium and protein.
